On this epic adventure, you'll cover all the basics of leadership and fine-tune advanced skills that help you develop your own unique leadership style.

The advanced course offers the best of “experiential learning”. Here, the students will hike sections of the John Muir Trail on this 80-mile trek through the heart of the High Sierra. ACTIVITIES

Wilderness Hide and Seek: the students will be divided into two teams. The first team will hike to a predetermined but hidden location in the backcountry making note of their surroundings, course, and landmarks. This team will also place flags along the route that the second team will retrieve. Given a 2-way radio, the team will have three minutes to effectively communicate their position and flagged waypoints to the second team. Without a map, the second team will follow this instruction and other clues provided by the instructor on where they should go to find the other team. They will have 3 separate opportunities to use the radio for 20-second questions. The objective is to retrieve all the flags and find the location of the first team. Each flag retrieved is worth a certain piece of High Sierra Adventures gear, which the students will receive at the end of the trip.

Leadership Games: the student will lead his or her team in finding ways to win challenging games. Most of these games will challenge the students by limiting their ability to talk in order to solve a problem. The students will focus on other means of effective communication and learn the importance of being direct and real with each other.

Blindfolded Adventure: each student will be blindfolded and guided by a partner while walking on a given path. This activity will encourage the students to trust one another to effectively communicate the inherent dangers that arise on the trail. Learning to trust another team member can be just as critical for success as being able to communicate a plan or course of action to reach a common goal.

First Aid Seminar: the student will learn basic techniques of first aid. Having the knowledge and ability to preserve life is a powerful tool you will use time and time again. In this seminar, we teach you everything you need to know in order to quickly and effectively respond to any emergency first aid situation. We also teach you advanced techniques to improvise emergency first aid in the backcountry. There's no better feeling in the world than one you get when someone thanks you for helping them through a life-threatening emergency.
